Commissioned

Posted by Pastor Terry

Tomorrow morning we will be commissioned by our church to go to Mexico City as ambassadors of the Gospel of Christ.  What an amazing opportunity - to be prayed for, sent out and then to experience the hand of God at work and the powerful presence of your prayer covering.

What I also love about this service is how it brings two parts of the mission trip trilogy together.  Each short-term mission trip has three participants.  The senders, the goer-guests, and the host receivers.  McKernan Baptist Church and all of you who are praying for us, and have supported us financially, are a part of the "senders" of this MOBY Mexico 2010 Mission Trip.  Thank you for being a part of this team, we need you.

What I also love about this service is how we have the body of Christ pray for us.  This picture is from our 2008 trip, and you can see some of the "senders" are up front with us.

Tomorrow, we will be standing in the aisle from the front to the back as we have a team of 21.

But I think what got me most excited about tomorrow's commissioning was my bible reading this morning. This morning I was reading in 2 Chronicles 34 about Josiah as he became King.

"Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years.  He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and walked in the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left.  In the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, he began to seek the God of his father David." - 2 Chronicles 34:1-3a
As I read about Josiah, and his commitment to follow God, not turning aside and really seeking out God, I starting thinking about each team member, and how they are seeking God and what God would want them to do with their lives.  Going on this mission trip is a huge step of obedience, and for many, it is quite scary, as it is really outside their comfort zone, and their lives will not be the same.  They will have experienced God in a new way, and it is our prayer that this is just the beginning of a lifetime of following God and experiencing amazing things with God.

Thank you again for partnering with us on this great adventure.

Blessings,

Terry
